The project consists of a new courthouse building of approximately 700,000 SF of finished space to accommodate the needs of civil and family courts and is located at the Corner of SE 1st Avenue and SE 6th Street in the City of Fort Lauderdale. Secured parking for approximately 120 judges and department heads is provided within the proposed parking garage. In order to accommodate the judges and department heads during construction, a parking lot at the northern of the site was constructed to temporarily accommodate their parking needs until the secured parking garage is constructed. Bridges connect the new courthouse to the County jail (for prisoner movement), to the north courthouse (for secure judge movement) and to the existing East wing (for public movement). The project will be designed to comply with a Certified Level according to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System. Craven Thompson and Associates were the project Civil Engineers for the crucial facility.
